Aviva Endean & Henrik Olsson
Aviva Endean (AU) & Henrik Olsson (SE)
Concert
Vitlycke - Centre for Performing Arts
Saturday, 27 September 19.00
Australian clarinetist and sound artist Aviva Endean and Swedish percussionist Henrik Olsson met for the first time at the Sounds of Sthlm 2023 Festival where both performed their solos. Inspired by each other's worlds of sound, a collaboration began and they have since performed a number of concerts as a duo and released their first album last year on the label FrimRec.
Aviva and Henrik create strong emotional soundscapes far from the musical mainstream, yet the music is direct and engaging, hypnotic and self-evident at the same time.
At HERE:2025 we will hear them perform composed improvisations and improvised compositions for clarinet, pipes, percussion, turntables, cassette tapes and electronics. Don't miss this musical experience with two truly idiosyncratic sound artists living on opposite sides of the world, Wurundjeri in Australia and Bottna, Bohuslän.

Aviva Endean (AU)
Clarinetist, composer and sound artist living in Wurundjeri / Dja Dja Wurrung in Australia. Aviva's artistic ambition is to open our ears to the world around us and expand our way of experiencing and understanding sound through new forms of expression.
Through her solo performances, international collaborations and acclaimed performance works, Aviva has become a significant voice in Australian contemporary music and has initiated several significant collaborations, projects and performance works. She has also received international attention and released her solo debut "cinder : ember : ashes" on the Norwegian label SOFA in 2018.
Her solo works for clarinet and electronics have been performed at festivals such as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), Sound of Stockholm (Sweden), Only Connect (NO) The Substation (VIC) and MONA FOMA (TAS).
Her innovative virtuosity has been described as "captivating, sophisticated, amazing, miraculous" and "trance-inducing" by music critics.
Henrik Olsson (SE)
Born in 1975 in Kyrkhult, a small industrial town in southern Sweden. He moves freely between methods, concepts, notated music and free improvisations, often mixing acoustic sounds with sounds that have been amplified.
With the help of contact microphones, even the smallest sounds become audible. And here a common thread runs through his entire music making; to listen to the greatness of the small sounds.
Henrik's music is represented on over 40 releases on labels such as Another Timbre, SOFA, Monotype Rec, iDEAL, Häpna, Kring Disk, Bombax Bombax and more and he has toured and performed in the USA, Japan, Russia and all over Europe at festivals such as Le Guess Who?, Huddersfield CMF, Splitter Festival Berlin, San Francisco SFF, Bipod Beiruth in collaborations with artists such as Sarah Hennies, Annea Lockwood, Toshimaru Nakamura, Andrea Neumann, Ko Ishikawa, Rhodri Davies, Angharad Davies, Axel Dörner, Keith Rowe, Laura Naukkarinen,
Tetuzi Akiyama, Lucio Capece and many more.
