“Simulacro” is an exercise in intimacy, repetition, and resistance.

Two bodies in continuous motion explore the limits of their proximity through the degenerative nature of gesture. A blurred space emerges between the real and the staged, between the public and the private, amplifying states of vulnerability, anticipation and tension.

“Simulacro” draws from a set of actions and gestures rooted in the performers’ daily lives, interwoven with fragments of shared memories, in a slow and deliberate transformation of their bodies and pulses.

*Please note: The performance includes the use of strobe lighting, which may affect viewers who are sensitive to flashing lights.

"Like replicas of an earthquake running through each body, the repetitive and synchronised movements (both with the music and between the two performers) amplify moments of tension and resistance, but also of poetry and vulnerability."

"It is an exercise to the point of exhaustion through repetition; the kind of exercise that brings us back to our senses and our humanity, when the body continuously responds to the movement, but the breath exposes the effort needed to sustain it."

"A performance clear in its intent and unsettling in its execution, SIMULACRO can be adapted to countless unconventional scenarios and spaces."

- Maria Palma Teixeira, Les Corps Dansants

Artists

Carminda Soares is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans dance, performance, and writing. Her practice is defined by a pursuit of new choreographic and textual devices, exploring states of intimacy, resistance, and aggression. Her projects have been presented in different artistic contexts, including "Simulacro" (2022), in collaboration with Margarida Montenÿ; her solo creation, "Light On Light" (2022); and "It’s a Long Yesterday" (2021), in collaboration with Maria R Soares.

Margarida Montenÿ is an aerial acrobat who works between circus and the performing arts. In her research and choreographic practice, she seeks a transdisciplinary approach, defending a broad vision of what circus can be. In her creations, she uses models and devices to question space and the role of the audience during performances. Among her creations, she highlights "BLUE", premiered in 2023 and "Simulacro" created in partnership with Carminda Soares, premiered in 2022.
